Pascal Dombis

Even though they kind of remind me of Windows screen savers, the works of Pascal Dombis are pretty cool. Nice use of color and symmetry that give a sort of optical illusion. They evoke strong feelings when seen and the bottom picture really makes me think that if one walked by it would be really jarring to the senses.

Valerie Boy

Artist and sculptor Valerie Boy has created many amazing, award winning lighted installation art pieces. They make me feel warm just looking at them. Any of her works are available on her website and would make a lovely and very artistic addition to any home. I would rush to buy them for myself if I didn't know that they would be outta my budget.

Gregg Toland

Few people these days think of movies and film as art when the objective has always seemed to be about entertainment. Some people, some artists that is, are intent on using the medium as an artistic outlet and wish to make every scene a piece of artwork. Gregg Toland was the cinematographer for Citizen Kane and Wuthering Heights, as well as a few other movies. He was not around for very long, but the few works he did complete were very highly noted, such as Citizen Kane. This movie is famous for its use of the camera and its other worldly quality that is brought in to a very earthly story about a man who loses his money and his younger lover.

Tex Avery

For this post I wanted to honor an animator that brought us famous characters like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, as well as many other Looney Toons. Animation is another type of art that is not always as appreciated as it should be. Everyone knows the face of Bugs Bunny and yet I'm sure very few people ever, or will ever know the people behind these popular characters. They created pop culture icons and yet they probably got very little credit and were usually paid very little as well.

Stephen Wiltshire

This artist is truly a remarkable human being. Stephen Wiltshire is an autistic man who has a photographic memory. He flys over a city and is able to remember an astonishing amount of detail and is able to depict it with amazing accuracy. This is someone who shows us what talent is capable of.

George B. Post

For this post, I wanted to share the work of an architect as they are sometimes forgotten as artists. Sometimes it is easy to forget that buildings can be a form of art, a lot of them seem plain and boring in fact. However, some architects take things to a higher level and bless the city skylines with something different and beautiful. The pictures below depict some greco-roman and gothic like architecture from the artist George B.Post.

Donatello

For his time Donatello seemed to have been able to very accurately sculpt the human form. His works are very elaborate and detailed, as well as vast and impressive. Sculpting can be complicated and the mistakes are at times harder to fix than paintings or drawings, which makes the feat of creating such pieces even more impressive.
