Gregg Toland

Few people these days think of movies and film as art when the objective has always seemed to be about entertainment. Some people, some artists that is, are intent on using the medium as an artistic outlet and wish to make every scene a piece of artwork. Gregg Toland was the cinematographer for Citizen Kane and Wuthering Heights, as well as a few other movies. He was not around for very long, but the few works he did complete were very highly noted, such as Citizen Kane. This movie is famous for its use of the camera and its other worldly quality that is brought in to a very earthly story about a man who loses his money and his younger lover.
